Right, recently put a stick of DDR memory into my motherboard... don't ask how but SOMEHOW i was able to accidentally put it in the wrong way round. I swear it clicked into place with the clamps, and was the same height as the stick next to it.
I turned the computer on, and it instantly turned itself off... followed by the beautiful smell of something burnt inside.
Through process of elimination, we've singled it down to either being the motherboard or the processor, that is screwed.
Both memory sticks still work fine and have been tested in another machine, and they're detected and work fine with no problems whatsoever.
Right, the computer (with the memory in the RIGHT way) turns on, but just boots up with no warning beeps at all the CD drives keep trying to initiate. Before you say it, i've tried removing all IDE/floppy cables and the same thing happens, with no change, it's not related to the CD or hard disks.
Does anyone know which is the most likely component to burn out from this cause?
