I get this question a lot through RenHelp and I cant seem to fix it either.
On 3ds Max 8, people are getting this error:
I upgraded to the latest DirectX 9.0c drivers and updated max 8 to service pack 3. I asked them to do the same.
I know it will work with Max 8 because I made the video tutorial in max 8. I know I have done these things properly but I don't know for sure if they have. I'm running Vista Ultimate, so it maybe a problem on my end.
