If you buy all the parts for a computer pice by pice could you go to bestbuy or somwhere and have them build it???

I don't live in the US but I wouldn't think they would build it for you. If they did they would probably charge you a lot and it wouldn't be worth it. There not going to buld your PC for free. The best thing is if you have a friend or someone related who knows how to build PC's.
There fairly simple to build yourself and nearly anyone can build them if they know how. It's not rocket science, well these days it isn't. If you can install a graphics or sound card then you should be abl;e to build a PC. There are thousands of websites that show you how in clear picture step by step guides. This is how I like to think of it.
Premade: Quality is okay, sometimes you cannot get what you want, and I do not find them that all "stable," and you get all that "FREE 1000 HOURS OF AOL/MSN!!!!(this discludes alienwares)
Built by you: You can get everything you want, know exactly what you have, 'seems' to be more stable, and sometimes you can get warrenties on the parts that will not become void if you open the case. And you have a nice clean harddrive without all those promotions.
Now when I said "seems" earlier, Im just saying that my computer crashes rarely. My brother just bought a Dell and it has crashed/frozen/blue screen of death god who knows how many times. Mine has probally crashed.....5 times in the eight months.
If you have the time, just buy quality parts, (Asus, Western Digital, ATI/Nivida...etc) and build it.

One thing to consider is software (mainly operating system). If you don't already have an OS and all the other basic software you'll need (the stuff you get with a premade system), then by the time you buy it all you may end up spending close to what you would have if you'd bought premade to begin with. Personally I'd build it myself, but I've already got all the software I need. If that's the case with you then you should consider building, but like several people have already said, if you've never done it get help.

The OS can be got cheap if you buy most of the parts on line, they will usually sell you the OS half price. I live in the UK so all the prices are fucked up. I usually buy from http://www.planetmicro.co.uk not the cheapest but I have never had a problem with them.
Some online companies will build them for you at a small extra cost, as little as 20 and as big as 50. It depends. Shop around, check PC mags for adverts and pick and choose.

Didn't know that. That would make a big difference, but I would have to agree with Dante, if he doesn't know how to build. It's not that hard to do, but at the same time it's not that hard to screw something up either.

You will need:
*A power supply (One w/ enough watts to support your whole system)
*Mother Board
*Case
*Processor(One that will fit your motherboard)
*Processor Fan(Make sure it is the same socket as your CPU and will provide suffiect cooling)
*Hard Drive
*Video Card
*CD/DVD Drive
*Sound Card(If your motherboard does not have it built in)
*NIC/56k modem(This is for your internet a NIC if it is cable or DSL, 56k if you have dial-up)
*Operating System(Windows 2000, Windows XP [I recommend PRO])
*RAM(Make sure it is the same type the your motherboard excepts, such as DDR or SDRAM and PC2700 or PC3000)

Here is some stuff the I recommend buying.(None of this stuff is really needed buy I would look into this stuff.)
*Arctic Silver 3 - This stuff is MUCH better then the stuff the usually bundle w/ the CPU fan. http://www.arcticsilver.com/as3.htm

*Electrical Tape or those tie things that come w/ trash bags. This will keep all those wires inside and outside of your PC nice and tidy.
