For the past week, every time I try to play renegade online, my computer restarts in the middle of playing. No warning, Renegade doesn't close, My computer just turns off and on as if i hit the power switch. I get the same problem for every single other online game I have, and though this all started a week ago, one of my games, Medal of Honor: Allied Assult Spearhead, has been doing this for a few months now. Sometimes games crash a few minutes into online play, sometimes it can take up to an hour. I think it might be my ISP, America Online, because a game has never crashed while i wasn't connected to the internet. The games I have that crash are:

Medal of Honor: Allied Assult Spearhead
Command and Conquer: Renegade
Command and Conquer: Generals
WarCraft 3: Reign of Chaos
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

typically, a complete system restart during something intensive such as a game is due to a heat problem.

What are your computer specs?

Your using XP, make sure you have the patch that fixes the exploit used by the msblast worm.

To see if this is a heat-relaed problem, play one of these games until it restarts your computer. When your computer restarts, go into the BIOS, and pick the one that says something like 'PC Health' or some such, and look up the CPU tempature.

If it's over 55C its worth worrying about.

My AMD 2000 averages 50 - 60c and ive never had a problem or a reboot like that.

In the end it doesn't matter if you are who you say you are. You will still mean nothing to me.

When i have kids, everytime i drive past a fast food restaurant, im gonna punch my kid in the face, then they'll never wanna come..

Tarsonis,

Do a system32 search for msblast.exe.
If you find anything related to that, Delete it.
To be on the safe side and make sure what your doing, Use Virus detectors.

( Make sure its up-to-date )

I don't think its the CPU.

Different processors can handle different temps, even ones of the same speed, core and batch.

I have a 1.1 T-Bird AVHA that will refuse to run at any temps above 47. I have another AVHA 1.1 that will run all day long @ 53.

In my experience normal operating temps should not exceed 60.

Honestly, don't you think yours is running a bit hot? A Palomino, maybe not too much, but if its a Tbred then you're way out of range. Even on stock cooling I can get 2000+ TBred down to around 43 idle and 49 load.

Maybe you have too much AS3 on it?

Here's a good question: Does the computer crash and reboot when you're NOT doing anything. Maybe like simple web browsing and such?

My Athlon 2100 XP hits 60C sometimes, it once went up to 68C until I removed the thick layer of dust from the heat sink. Even at that temperature, I experienced no problems.

My Athlon 1900+ had a problem where the comp restarted during playing renegade. Although it has a palimino core, The heat was around 37degrees when the ambient heat was around 28. I got a Radeon 9200, and now the problem never occers.....

Try this download:
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe
stinger is a free worm remover, it removes msblast too !!

And turn off system reboot in computer properties/Advanced/Startup and recovery/ uncheck : Automatically reboot !!

If the game crashed now you may see a debug screen or a log file...
But most of the time nothing (renegade crashed 3 times in 6 months now)

Do you guys have air conditioning in your room?

If so, turn it on while you're playing. Smile Stupid, yes, but worth a try.
