Yesterday a worldwide protest began that involved 436 different cities in 52 different countries in a march against Monsanto. Assuming you dont know Monsanto is a company currently genetically modifying food (this includes some fish) with no care for a large amount of health complications ranging from tumors to rupturing red blood cells in lab rat tests and is attempting to patent the seeds.
Their corn (modified to handle 2-4-d a dangerous ingredient from Agent Orange as pesticide/herbicide) currently dominates 80% of the U.S. market, and many foreign countries also have a high percentage.
They are currently banned in 10+ countries and Labeling of GMO products is required in Vermont and Connecticut, though the federal government of the U.S. just passed a bill making states no longer have that choice.

[i]I hear this a lot and I have to remind everyone that nothing is 100% safe. Nothing. NO food.

Im pretty sure food isnt supposed to cause tumors, cancer, and in (depending on the specific gmo product) they have even shown to pop red blood cells and cause serious intestinal distress.
Im pretty sure normal food does not do that.
And on top of that GM foods are not all bad, its Monsantos careless and untested food that is the problem.

Where did you read about exploding blood cells... by the way, living causes cancer and tumors; you have to eat to live, thus all food allows cancer to happen ;p

In all technicality they dont explode, but the Bt Toxins in some GMOs damage red blood cells which can result in bursting.
Dr. Mezzomo and his team from the Department of Genetics and Morphology at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Brasilia recently performed and published this study.

Make sure to put burger king, Windys, Taco Bell, and the others into the mix and you'll be fine.

The American salad?
Forgot to add this: Some time ago former Monsanto lobbyist Michael Taylor was appointed Senior Advisor to the Commissioner of the FDA.

It is uncommon and depends entirely on the immune system. But if it does happen in weakened immune systems it can be fatal quickly.
As for the most common problems: IBDs, such as Ulcerative Colitis, (sometimes so severe people have to have their large intestine removed) Severe heart burn/acid reflux (which can lead to serious complications), and countless directly related cancers.
1996 was about the time they first started releasing gmo products (soy, corn, cottonseed, conola) about the same time food allergies became much more common in kids.
The problem isnt as simple as washing it off because these Bt-toxins are placed in genetically in the seed, under the excuse of pesticide, so the entire plant is riddled with Bt-toxins in all the cells. The concentration of the GM Bt-toxins has shown to be at least 10x more than absorbed into the plant from sprays.
