Is anyone here from the usa navy or air force or marines?
I wish to consider learning about maybe joining one day but a friend whos whole family has been in military for generations, like her dad for 28 years say never trust a recruiter, they say what you want to hear but once you join its not what you expected, she also said I could if i join the navy with her do to the boot camp and few months away form home and then go from being in the military hours a day every day
what do you guys think? anyone here tell me what your experience was

Saw a documentary on those recruiter's methods. They have a monthly quotum of recruits to attain. They use every method they can to get this quotum, including lying about a lot of things.
I think your post here is a good idea, at least if there's some real people in the army that are registered here.

Well, I am not sure, I rather get into something which does not involve me to fight like work on computers at a base or something

Honestly? Because I think you're making a fool out of yourself by asking questions that you could've answered yourself easily if you would use google.
Also from your questions it seens like you have in no way any kind of "plan" or "path" laid out for yourself about what you want to learn, what you can learn and possibily how to learn it.
Here I'm for example pointing at your computer topics, ranging from learning PHP to learning C++ to learning how to build a computer.
I don't think you're stupid. Let that be clear. I just dislike people that don't show own initiative. I think that one should at least try to do something that he/she wants to do, and then if you get stuck you can ask for help. Just try to find an answer yourself first, then when that fails, try again. If you've done that for a couple of times either you'll have learned yourself something, or you can still ask all of us.

You don't know anything about me so please keep your comments to your self, I dont mean to be rude I am not starting a flame, god knows these forums had enough of this, you must see I have been getting better at not trolling these forums, and only pc language Im learning is c++ the others like PHP where stuff related to something I was doing not no major life decision. So please I am not being disrespectful to you, please call it truths or keep your comments to yourself. I mean tons of people here piss me off in these forums but I keep my mouth shut much as possible. anyways this is question i wont rely on google, just like my friend says dont ever trust a recruiter and talk to someone who actually went thru it, so since im sure there has to hopefully be at least one person on here since I dont know any military vets or such in person, I decided to ask here.

Go with pawkyfox's suggestion, and ask at n00bstories. Jarhead is an ex-Marine, and srgmjrten just got out of basic training. srgmjrten isn't around too much because of his military involvement, but he has made a few posts in the forums about his new career (recruitment, training), especially this long thread:
http://www.n00bstories.com/forums/index.php?t=msg&th=11616&prevloaded=1& amp;rid=7431&start=0
Alternatively, if you poke around Exodus' IRC, you might be able to find egoflux0, who I believe also has some military experience.

I'm not saying that you're doing that with this question. This is indeed such question that makes sense to ask, as you like to hear experiences from other people, preferably that you know.
But there where questions in the past that you could've just as easily google'd as you could post them here.

EvilWhiteDragon: Quit being a jerk... He came to the forums asking if anyone was from the military. Why on earth would he google "renforums military personnel" when he could just come here.... Quit trying to destroy the community. If you don't like it here than just leave.

He wouldn't google that, he'd google "military personnel experiences" or something.
I agree with SSnipe though, it's better to directly ask people than just google around. I just wish I could contribute some info.

I don't know if you missed my previous post, but the link sends you right to a n00bstories thread about a guy (srgmjrten) who went through the recruitment process, and documents his training. It's about seven pages long, and should fill you in on a bunch of things.

EvilWhiteDragon wrote on Sat, 17 October 2009 17:57 | Goddamnit people, please read. I already said that that was NOT the case with this topic, but with many of his PREVIOUS topics.
|
Exactly. It isn't in the case of this topic... so why bring it up? He is asking a seriously honorable question, there is no need to spit in his face.
My Uncle went into the middle east. He didn't join the army, but rather he joined a reconstruction company and worked as a foreman. He was running some of those night convoys a few years ago. (You know, the ones that all those roadside bombings and stuff occurred) He was never in an attacked convoy, but he was doing the same jobs that the attacked ones were doing.
However, he was only in a construction company. He still had to wear a rifle and stuff, but he wasn't necessarily part of the military. I helped him do some research on the company he worked for, but that's really about it.
If you're looking to join the core, however, I don't really know anyone who can help you.
