Check your (IDE? I can't remember the name) cables inside and make sure the connection between the cd drive and the motherboard are secure.

Do the SATA or IDE cable even need to be plugged in though? I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure the drive only needs power to open and close. The cable is just for transmitting the data from the disk to the system or vice versa.
The paperclip idea is your best bet, but if all cables are secure, the drive or ejecting mechanism has gone bad, which means you'll need a new one.

My drives began acting up a while back. Randomly i had no problems, othertimes it would act as if it was trying to open (you'd hear it budge) however it would just stop. I think for my situation is has to do something with the little motors/wheels ( I have no clue how it works TBH ) in terms of it ejected. There is either dust, something causing it to stick, or its just hardware failing.
So i use a pocket knife to play around in between the tray and it usually acts as the initial budge to get it to move out like normal. When i close it i press the button and all is normal.

Get a pin and push the emergency button, it's a very small hole at the front.

Also, I just realized something. How do you close your CD drive when you could open/close it when you wanted? Do you actually push the drive close or use the little button to close the drive?
When I took my computer into my boss to see if I could get the harddrive reformatted, it turned out my primary CD drive had failed and I couldn't reformat. One cause of it to fail and not open so I could get the disk out was because I was pushing on the drive to close it which wore out the gears/motors inside that open the drive.

I have always known it's bad for them, but it's much quicker to do (especially when the tower is on the floor and to get to the button you have to actually reach around the disk tray), and they are fairly cheap to replace anyway. So I just give em a shove to close them Been doing it with my disk drives for as long as I can remember, and have yet to have one actually break because of it. Maybe I just got lucky so far...
Also, if you do push them to close them, don't push it all the way, just pushing it little bit usually triggers the motor to pull it in for you.
