Oh? I hadn't heard about that being added to Firefox, it's one of my favourite features in Chrome so that's good to hear.
I have not tried the 3.1 beta versions yet, but as far as performance goes, it's very often extensions and plugins that degrade performance rather than the browser itself, if you really want to benchmark performance vs older versions or even other browsers you should disable all extensions and plugins while testing it. On the other hand extensions are partly what draws people to Firefox in the first place, so testing with some common ones gives a more realistic scenario... swings and roundabouts I guess.
Have you tried visiting any javascript intensive websites (most of the Google apps come to mind here) to see how the new javascript engine fares? Or have they not included that in the current beta?
