Ok so here is the basic problem. When I fire up Renegade with RG it starts like normal than attempts to load the game, then (renegade) closes, RG pops back up and proceeds to give me a "failed to start Renegade" message in the RG display.

If I fire up good ol game2.exe the game will start but not in the correct resolution. It should be 1680x1050 (native resolution), the registry says 1680x1050, the game options itself says 1680x1050 but it is not.

When I open up the config I have the two video cards displayed (per the dual monitor - one card - two monitors). It should be on the second card listing and on 1680x1050 however it is not. It is on the first card listing and at 1280x1024 (which is what my secondary monitor runs at). I can change it and hit ok but when I reopen it the settings have reverted to the above. It is as if Windows and Renegade have the monitors crossed.

When this situation occurred I had shut down Renegade normally to eat and when I returned about on hour later this is what I was faced with. In that time nothing was installed, removed, updated, crashed, changed, touched, used, ect.

Things I have already done
- Complete un-install/delete and reinstall
- Confirmed newest video drivers, rolled back drivers, updated drivers
- Disabled secondary monitor via Windows and back of PC unplug (still sticks at same res)
- multiple restarts

Should also note that while installing RG I had some difficulties as well. Kept getting "program error 193" and had to manually install the updates.

Hopefully someone can help. Having to break out the laptop every time I want to Ren sucks! Thanks in advance.

Relax, it wasn't broken by you. Westwood's dual-monitor support is rather horrible as it chooses which render device to chose by the device name. Guess what the device name is for the second display? Sigh

What you could do to work around the problem for now is editing the registry directly (HKLM/Software/Westwood/Renegade/Render) and bypassing wwconfig because it's most likely limiting you to the lower of two resolutions.

You should also be aware that if your using Vista you have to run wwconfig (and Renegade itself) in Admin mode or settings don't get saved properly in my experience.

As I said in my original post the registry reads 1680x1050.
