So after a stretch of a month I popped in my ren cd and get to play. Everything comes up just fine, but I cannot play online. The operation to bring up servers just times out.

Anyone have insights?

Check that you're internet connection is stable and that you're firewall is allowing the game access.

Update the game by downloading updates from commandandconquer.filefront.com or ftp.westwood.com

or else try this

http://xwis.net/downloads/XWISC.exe

just click set to xwis then close the program and run renagade.

AOB-Frost, AFAIK, that tool points to the wrong addresses. DO not use it.

First off lets start off with what does your host file say in this directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

This is my setting:
127.0.0.1 localhost
212.162.52.233 irc.westwood.com
212.162.52.233 servserv.westwood.com

And it seems to work for everyone else I helped.

U should delete the two westwood-related entries. They'll just cause trouble when xwis decides to change ips again. Do NOT use the tool that frost posted: it's outdated.

Well yes and no, earlier this month someone asked for help saying they cant connect, I told them to use that tool, though it didnt help (some reason rengaurd was causing his issue) i told him to uninstall for a while and seek help for rengaurd, then reinstall once he gets the help he needs, I tried the tool myself on a PC that has never logged into XWIS and it connected using that tool and still does, before using it, it would just time out after 30 seconds of trying to connect.

Well after reading goztow's post it is true that the tool i posted is crap if xwis changes again, but so far I havent had any problems with it, so maybe they havent changed since I used the program? I'm not sure.
