i was looking at the difference from two planes (in w3d viewer) with the same texture but different lighting settings today, when i noticed a thing in the top-left called "movie". i clicked it, then "make movie" (just trying to see what it does) note that i exported the scene as non-animated.
the program lagged for a while, and i that time i was using other windows. when it had finished, there was a new avi file in the w3d viewer directory. i opened it up, to find a skewed version of what i had been doing when it lagged. is this just chance, or can i utilise it for capturing what i am doing . if so, how can i fix the skew?
if anyone wants the file ill email it to them, so i dont waste hosting space on other sites.

Download a trial of Camtasia Studio. Try it out, it is pretty cool.

i am after an answer for the original question, not asking for other programs. please, even if your life depends on it, i only want to know how to fix the skew (if its possible as well), not for other programs.

The latest versions of FRAPS record anything that is being processed by DirectX (to the best of my knowledge). I've used FRAPS to record video segments in Real Player. It doesn't show the "frames per second" overlay, but it still records and drops it to the /fraps folder. I hope that helps. (note: this was on full version, but I doubt the trial 30 second version would be any different)
