how do i play on servers with custom maps. they are always just grey.

Download them first to be able to play them. If you want to have a lot of custom maps at once, you could download the UberMapPack with about.. 200-300 maps (?). You can find it at http://www.mpmaps.net/ It's 700mb big. I prefer to download the maps I like myself from sources like http://www.renmaps.com and test them. If I like them I keep them, if I dislike them I trash them.

So that's why some servers are greyed out even though they're right there... I never knew that. @_@;

Yeah, the other indicator is on the end-game screen. If you see "Next Map: " and no map name, then it's one you don't have and you'll be booted out.
