I just recently got a laptop and wanted to install Renegade onto it, but the installation wont start. When I load up Setup.exe the game goes through the inital graphics, but before anything happens I'm brought back to the desktop. I can't figure out the problem and was wondering if it was something obvious, or if there's something wrong with my copy of the game or my computer.
I didn't provide any details of the computer itself, but I can if need be. Also, I should mention it works fine on my old PC, no problems with install either when I did it a while ago.

I had a simular problem like this in the past (long time ago).
OS was Windows 98, i couldnt install Renegade on this pc,
P3 1Ghz, 512MB ddr, nVidia GeForce 2 ti.
I never fixed the problem under W98 because i didnt know what
caused it.
Once i installed XP on that pc magically Renegade would install
back then. O.o
Odd.
edit: If you dont have Win98 installed, ignore this post lol :S

download directX again from microsoft.com/directX. if that fails, download the latest graphics driver from your manufacturer, maybe nvidia.com or ATITECH.com.
Keep the downloaded files on your desktop in case you do something to cause errors in your display drivers. with ATI cards you tend to uninstall your current driver before putting on the new one.
