How do i apply a dds skin to a new vehicle?

I've read Greg's tutorials about skinning, but it doesn't say how to actually attach a dds file to the model.

How do do this? Does anyone know of a tutorial?(not one of those basic skin tuts either...)

You put the orginal .dds file in a photo editing program(make sure you have the .dds plug-in), edit it, then save it as .dda and throw it into the data folder. Is this what you are trying to find out?

No. I've read all those basic skinning tutorials and all theydo is tell me how to re-colour existing skins.

I wanna create NEW skins, for my NEW vehicles (with the emphasis on NEW).
