Check out what's just about to be released... A video card with dual processors, and a motherboard that supports Athalon 64's for less then an x850 or a 6800. http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~ra2sw/style_emoticons/aliassed/w00t.gif

Link.

That's like saying dual CPUs are oversized pieces of shit, just before they were released. You won't know until you try it. I'm willing to bet ATI and Nvidia will make this standard on most of their new cards within the next year.

It's oversized because it uses one slot, unlike the x850 and the 6800 (they use 2 slots) and is cheaper and comes with more....

Wow! That looks pretty cool! I may get one of those when I build my new rig. Dual GPUS and quad processors... It will be a machine of multiples...

Most if not all quad processor motherboards are server class boards that don't even have an AGP slot, much less SATA and all the other niceties of desktop boards, so good luck with that Smile

When ATi comes out with their SLi technology, 2 X850's will destroy this product in terms of performance, but the cost will be extreme. Razz

I don't need SATA I'll just find a sever board with an AGP Slot somewhere randomly. That rig will be sweet. It'd run zSnes at like 50,000 fps...

You think 2 cards with a one GPU each will beat 2 cards with two GPUs each? Laughing

(The x850 takes up two slots, would there be enough from for a second one?)

This card with 2 GPUs on one card requires SLi to operate both GPUs.

An ATi employee on Rage3d stated that ATi have considered 2 GPUs on 1 card but it wasn't worth the investment. They could gain alot more performance from 2 seperate cards linked with SLi, rather than a single card with SLi. 2 seperate cards can operate cooler (allowing for better clocking, or overclocking) and the memory can be used more extensively with 2 cards rather than 1, for obvious reasons.

I still like the idea of 2 GPUs on one card, saves costs for user and increases performance over 1 independent card - which is never a bad thing with games like Half Life 2 and Doom III out.

But can two of these double GPU cards run together like the single GPU cards?

I was being hypercritical when using the x850 as an example. The next lot of ATi cards will hopefully have SLi, so they will be the flagship for my example. At current state, no ATi card can be linked with SLi as ATi hasn't yet adopted the technology to do so; only nVidia have.

"but also more than ATI's Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition, which achieved in Gigabyte's test environment 13,271 points and Nvidia's GeForce 6800 Ultra, which posted 12,680 points."

13,177 3d marks. Cool

Nothing new per se. Others have done this in the past, and one of the more (in)famous attempts was ATI's Rage Fury MAXX:

As far as this dual 6600GT in particular, synthetic benchmarks are nice and dandy -- I'd like to see how it actually performs in-game before making a judgement.
