Dam...the stupid things that some people say..
1)TPB does NOT host any child porn, from their about page:
To report child abuse or other similar unlawful activities please do so to your local authority. In Sweden you can contact childabuse@rkp.police.se to report child abuse matters. Please do so.
2)I am fully sided with TPB, full media sharing of all files for the advancement of cultural/social structure should be allowed. Either way, the amount of money made by the music industry in particulur has been going up steedly, now how does that work out?
3)Demoniod's many trackers were not even down for 6 hours, the only thing that needs to be re-hosting is the website which is what people upload the .torrent files to (which as mentioned, perfectlly legal), which shouldn't be too hard to find a host of, the only thing was that they have a REALLY bullshit western-canada ISP, which is the only reason they went offline for even a second anyway. If the site had been located eastern-canada, it would have stayed online.

I am against it. Mainly because the media market is dwindling. The Anime market is hurting because of it too. Western companies aren't localizing as many anymore because they don't make as much money as they used to off of it. Cause people simply download them from Japan and fan sub them then people download those instead.

Hey, jackass, did I say they did? Oh, wait... nope! What I said was that TPB had, at one point, such a no moderation of uploaded torrents that it even included child porn. I CLEARLY made it PAST TENSE. Do you know what "past tense" means, you fucking idiot? Apparently not.

Read up, jackass.
2. CD sales (at least, in America) have been declining since 2000. Just making sure you're including digital sales in that statement.
3. The fact that the website is still down was the cause of the CRIA putting pressure on their ISP. Demonoid is NOT fully-functional, and as far as anyone needs to be concerned, it's still "down".
What I don't get is the overall message of what I've been saying is in SUPPORT of torrenting, but either you're too fucking stupid to realize this or you have some awfully pathetic desire to argue with me over the smallest of shit even when agreeing on the overall topic. For fuck's sake, kid. Grow the Hell up.
whoa.

Just an FYI for your Comcast guys:
http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/16/0422249&from=rss | "An article at TorrentFreak notes that several BitTorrent developers have proposed a new protocol extension with the ability to bypass the BitTorrent interfering techniques used by Comcast and other ISPs. 'This new form of encryption will be implemented in BitTorrent clients including uTorrent, so Comcast subscribers are free to share again. The goal of this new type of encryption (or obfuscation) is to prevent ISPs from blocking or disrupting BitTorrent traffic connections that span between the receiver of a tracker response and any peer IP-port appearing in that tracker response, according to the proposal.'"

I swear, people just ignore everything I say. Look and tell me if you don't see "Demonoid" in #3. It's there. I just looked.
Edit: I realize I made it seem like I was only replying to his #1 point, but I tried to make it somewhat clear that I was replying to his other points by numbering them accordingly.
Edit2: Of course you wouldn't see "Demonoid" in #2... it's in #3.
whoa.

I think it should be said that many of us payed to play Renegade.
Now I cannot find the original topic that this thread has spurred from, but really, you can pick up a copy of Renegade for a decent price. Most people here can afford really awesome computers, and internet access, so why can they not afford a new copy of an old game?

trooprm02 wrote on Sat, 16 February 2008 17:14 | 1)TPB did not EVERY support uploading child porn, and it has ALWAYS been against their usage policy. Child porn is 1 of the many things they DO filter for.
2)The demoniod TRACKERS were not even down for more than 6 hours, AND there is a backup way to upload torrents to them anyway, so basically Demoniod ONLY lost the GUI (the website). Which is like 1% of their entire infrastructure anyway. Ping the many demoniod trackers, see for yourself. And the sub-admin has said for right now, they are not worried about the website, they want to subtract attention from themselves.
|
1. You have to be the stupidest person I've ever encountered. Did I say that they ever supported it? No. Did I ever say that they don't filter for it? No. I said that at one point their moderation of uploaded torrents was so lax that they DID NOT remove ANY torrents, INCLUDING CHILD PORN.
Did you read the link I gave you, or do you just assume that you know more than the collective body of Wikipedia users and therefore ignored the link?
2. You claim to know torrenting quite well, so I figure you understand the concept that torrents can't be downloaded without the torrent being uploaded TO the tracker, so as it's a registered torrent. Generally, this process is done VIA A WEBSITE. The tracker is useless if there is no new torrents or leechers. It's like a car without any wheels. Sure, you can start the car and it runs, but it's not exactly mobile, thus rendered useless. You wouldn't say that the car is operational, would you? I didn't think so.
Edit: Troop, do you realize the difference between past and present? According to the bullshit you're arguing, you don't differentiate between the two.
So, by using your logic, you can completely ignore the history of your own country and deny the fact that Canada was ever a colony of France and Britain.
Since Canada is currently its own sovereign nation, it must have always been one. If it has always been its own nation, it could never have been colonized by England or France. Why is this? Because the past never existed or doesn't matter, according your fucked-up logic.
whoa.

trooprm02 wrote on Wed, 13 February 2008 20:19 | I started this topic because an angry mod would didn't want to be proven wrong close a topic that was on the topic subject and blah blah blah. Anyway, this will bring what people THINK they know to show them how little they know. Bittorrent is illegal? You are dumb.
I have no idea where to start but here it goes:
Point 1)Bittorrent is 100% legal in every single country. How you ask? The actual .torrent file is only metadata, they contain NO copyrighted material.
Point 2)Bittorrent especially for "backup" purposes is 100% legal, stated by federal law (even in the US), despite what companies/corporations try to tell you.
Point 3)The way it works, the .torrent file connects you to users with the full (or sometimes partial) copy of the rquested file, you download from the "swarm", and you upload, which turns into their download speed from you. The website/tracker does NOT host any copyrighted material either.
Point 4)In a recent HUGE case between the MPAA/RIAA vs American College students (some 15,000 users in total), the MPAA/RIAA lost because the court found Bittorrent can not be held reliable for what users upload/distributed, and the fact that it can also be used for legal purposes (legaltorrents.com)
And finally @ that mod:
1)demonoid got shutdown? LOL. You have proven your lack of knowledge about this subject already.
2)elite torrents is a TOTTALY different matter, it was a private site meaning you need donations to gain access to the site, and the only reason they lost in court was because the stupid judge assumed that the money went towards the personal wealth of the admin vs annoymous paypal accounts which were used ONLY to pay for the server (which was the cause), and making money off "pirated" material is a serious offense, so infact, the site was NOT shutdown because of the BT side of things.

-been using P2P for about 8 years
