I have exact same problem as Angel. If I uninstall everything (directories and all reg entries) and re-install Renegade, works fine. The moment I install Renguard, invalid serial number. I have 2 different computers at home running Renegade. The version that broke was one from the First Decade DVD. The other one updated fine. I have a hunch that many of the Renegades that broke are from the First Decade DVD. No solutions at this time. Even all of the cd key change tool and registry fix does not work either. No dashes in my serial number.

I'd suggest u install your normal ren with your first decade serial on your computer where it doesn't work. It's a soltion for people who have both.

I am not going to uninstall a perfectly working copy. I do own two legal copies of Renegade with two separate serial numbers. Maybe I will find answer in another forum.
