Its like he's comparing the US to the Nazi regime by saying that they both need food to survive.

Of course there are similarities between that regime and practically every other one in the world, but the fact that he chose the Nazi regime tells us a lot.

I never asked you to agree with me on everything; you just can't seem to think for yourself at all, and it is evident in every single politically-related post you make.

He is, oddly enough, alone (on this board) in his views on this matter. Clearly, he cannot think for himself.

Just seems like he could have chosen a better time to accuse him of not thinking for himself.

You seriously call this, thinking for himself?

Quote:

I take it none of you have actually read what he wrote or saw him on C-SPAN defending himself...

Get a clue, then come back.

He said NOTHING.. just like every other argument he presents.. all he did was say "yea, what they said.. read that then come talk to me".. It's quite pathetic. He offered absolutely no personal side of the argument, absolutely no insight to if or how he agreed with Churchill.. he never offers any of his own opinions.. But if you say something he can't answer, just give him a few days to talk to his dad to see what he says..

Take a look at the thread I made attacking his Thomas Jefferson quote.. Seems SFE has "Nothing" to say in there either.

The whole point, pain, is that you [along with more than a handful of others] don't look much deeper into issues than what FOX, CNN, and MSNBC tell you to think. How is one to be expected to formulate an opinion if he's told it by someone else?

That's my stand.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

I sporadically ask my dad complex socio-economic questions.

Not entirely the same thing.

It's somewhat ironic that your "stand" is exactly the same as my "stand" against you.

Do you and your father ever disagree in some political issues Engi? and if so, name one. I want you to prove you dont get your ideals from your father.

There's nothing wrong with SFLT's father raising his son in the fashion he wishes and to believe what he thinks his son should believe. Though what he may be teaching his son is the blind following of the Democratic party, it's his right as a parent to raise him that way.

I seek my father's help and guidance in all aspects of my life, including my personal understanding of how the world around me works. Everything I have learned about basic economic principles have so far come mostly from my dad (as well as my cousin, who has a degree in economics from UGA). Are you going to start attacking me for agreeing with a large portion of what my dad tells me?

I seem to remember Michael Moore saying somewhere that kids shouldn't listen to what their parents try to teach them about politics (or any other subject, for that matter)....

Only if you simply regurgitate it here without knowing what it is you are really saying, then have to go back to him for more advice when something is said that you don't understand and can't respond to.

as do I, but I dont worship his words to the letter, I am a different person than him and as such, have different opinions. Seeking your father for guidance is not wrong, but not thinking for yourself is. I just want to make sure hes thinking for himself, rather than his father thinking through him.

I also a lot of my education in this stuff from my dad and I used to ask him for clarification when I didn't understand something, but it only took me a couple of months to stop needing to do that. Now he calls ME for the same reasons.
