i get an error window saying this:

The procedure entry point ??1critical_section@Concurrency @@QAE>@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR100.dll.

Can you reinstall the VS2010 redist (from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555 ) and try again? You may have to uninstall it from the control panel first. If that does not work, try reinstalling TT.

Did this happen immediately after updating?

yes it did
i'm trying to install that (i uninstalled the current one first) and it's saying it detected a newer one on my PC

gonna try restarting and doing it again

didn't work, so i just re-installed 4.0 in a copy of my non-4.0 folder
now it's good Razz

Could you try to find out what causes the difference? Are the .dlls or .exes different? Does running game2.exe directly work? Yould you try to copy the non working version to a new (third) folder, and copy only the dlls and exes over from the working one, for example? It'd help to know if this is something we can fix in the update process.

here's my update with this - 4.0 works just fine
however, when i attempt to direct connect (using the same direct connect line from my 2.9.2 instance) i get that same error message i reported before

is there anyone else that can't DC with 4.0 installed, or do i have some personal lingering error somewhere lol

Could it be that you're using the wrong working directory (if you've made a shortcut)?

tried copying my game.exe file from my 4.0 directory
put it on my desktop, and noticed it had no Shortcut tab in Properties (so i wasn't able to add the DC line)
when i tried opening it, it said "The program can't start because zlib1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

that's different from what i saw last time
should i retry with game2 or something?

Don't copy the game.exe or game2.exe or any other file and stick it on the desktop. Otherwise, when you run the executable, it will look for the necessary files on the desktop. Instead create a shortcut to game.exe and put it on the desktop.

Did you copy the .exe files from your working 4.0 folder and replace the old .exe files in the old 4.0 folder? Pretty sure at least one .exe (or .dll) file is corrupt.

my working 4.0 folder is the one i used for the DC line
i copied that Game.exe and it didn't work, so i tried making a shortcut of that Game.exe and it also didn't work (but in a different way)
i don't believe i replaced anything anywhere; all i know is that i can connect just fine through XWIS using 4.0 from that Game.exe
if it got screwed up, i haven't the slightest idea how or where lol
