I use ebay and am happy with it. Don't buy PC games: big chance that the serial that comes with it will already be in use and/or banned.

Pay very close attention to the feedback rating of the user you buy from. Make sure they have a decent history of successfully selling the same or similar item to what you want to buy. PayPal is a very safe way to conduct these transactions. If the seller never delivers, PayPal is the only way you really have a good chance of getting your money back.
I've had dozens of successful eBay transactions as a buyer and a seller. You're going to hit a random idiot who tries to take your money and run, but those can be almost completely avoided by watching the seller's feedback religiously.

PayPal does take a percentage but it's pretty comparable to fees for a merchant account. My online store accepts regular credit cards as well as PayPal and Google Checkout. I can't recall PayPal ever being down when I needed to use it. In fact, in a multi-server, multi-data center setup that they use, there's almost no way they could possibly be down except for maintenance periods which are unavoidable when you're dealing with finances and timed processing.

All it boils down to is that you should be moderately knowledgeable about what you're doing. I've been using eBay and PayPal for something like 5 or 6 years and I've never actually lost any money with it. I did buy something once that wasn't shipped but PayPal took my money back from the seller when I reported them and I bought it from someone else, no big deal.
If you're reasonably computer savvy, not a moron, and not a paranoid idiot, you should have no problems using eBay and PayPal to buy things.

That doesn't mean their servers are down. There are probably a dozen or more routers you pass through on your way to their servers, not to mention local computer issues.

I don't know, but Paypal taking 15 bucks out of 70 I'm transfering to my mother's account as a "fee" didn't exactly look fair to me.
That's when I told Paypal to fuck off.

The fee on $130.00 USD is $5.37 USD and that's on an international "cross-border" transaction. I don't know what sort of crazy fee schedule you guys are on.

Download the Virtual Card. It lets you use your PayPal account as a credit card, so the store doesn't have to accept PayPal. I've used it, and it works seamlessly.

Er, does it go by another name? I can't find "Virtual Card" anywhere.

Thank you everyone for your information and assurances. Thank you Crimson for sharing a lot of details!
Yeah, I was partly aware of the fact you need to buy from sellers with good ratings. Anyway, I am buying games from the old days just for some fun (like Tanarus, Incoming, etc). I know this one particular lady whose been runnin an eBay store for the past 6 years seeling toys, books and rare computer games. She had made thousands of sales and not a single customer left a nagative rating. She has this rare game I have been looking forward to own for 2 years!
Anyway, thanks to all for your great help!
P.S. I won't be selling anything (atleast for now till I get the hang of the system!).
EDIT:
Please forgive if I messed up the poll and you found it confusing. This is my first poll!

Used Ebay and Paypal. I used to find it a little bit scary but that's just because my parents were scared and they always were like: "never buy something on the internet!". Most big shops are as safe as it can get when it comes to receiving stuff, I bought a CPU secondhanded once, ( It was broken) the guy send me a good on in return). Though I would not buy anyting else on the internet like clothing, as nothing comes to touching the real stuff, and see if it fits.
