Looking for a bit of a hand. I am trying to get Renegade running on my new Vista laptop.... only game I really want on here.

I run the autorun on the first disc.... the whole UAC thing pops up, and I allow, and then it asks again and I confirm... whatever, then when it is supposed to display the full screen install screen... I get a blue screen stating stop code 0x000000008e (may have on too many or too few zeros... and mentioned igdkmd32.sys I believe this is some sort of a driver issue... not sure though, if anyone has any ides, let me know. Oh by the way, this is wide screen, that wouldn't cause this issue would it?

anyway, thanks for anything you can help me with.

v00d00 and I (my idea but v00d00 is doing all the hard part) are working on creating a "quickinstaller" that will install a fully updated copy of renegade. I have a vista PC here and will be sure it works on that before we release it.

The installer installs a fully updated 1.037 Renegade client. You can optionally install RenGuard or just the WOL components.

The installer also makes you enter your serial just like the real installer, so that this is not a "warez" version of renegade.

This installer would be huge though? Is BHS going to be hosting it?

Thanks for the info, I certainly look forward to trying that installer out. do you guys have an estimated completion time for that project, I can understand if you don't.

When it is released what will be the best place to check for it...

Thanks again.

I hope it'll be put availlable on www.renegadecommunity.com

Edit:
"v00d00"

So people know, one of the features of Windows Vista, is that programs not running as admin level don't have write access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (HKLM) in the registry. Many legacy games (including C&C: Renegade) write their when installing (so does RG1.03, every time it runs - 1.032 fixes this).

If you are running Windows Vista, and are having any issues, make sure to install as Administrator or run the installer with admin rights. When running Renegade normally (with or without *cheat name removed*) it should work fine, since it only reads the HKLM keys. When using RG 1.03/1.031, make sure to run it or *cheat name removed* as Administrator (so *cheat name removed* can pass the access on to RG).

This should solve any launch issues with Renegade under Windows Vista.

Many other legacy games and applications write to HKLM too, so the same might be required for those programs as well.

The simplest solution of course, would be to disable the new security. I won't go into that though, simply because it does help stop infection since applications don't gain admin access by default.

More problems will likely arise with DirectX 10, since DX10 contains no DX8/9 code (Vista (not DX10) will use emulation for 9/10, which means slower games and possible compatibility problems).

And, well.. the best solution.. Run XP
