Ok im on my friend's computer typing this and i wanted to say that when i click on his ren this thing that says Renegade Config pops up and then he clicks ok then a black screen pops up like normal renegade start and then it closes and goes back to the desktop does anyone know how to get rid of the renegade Config thing?

it means that on your computer you are putting a setting in (on the renegade config) that your computer cannot handle, for example say you are telling it to use multi-pass lightmapping and his comp can't do that. though, I thought renegade would default to safe settings if that happened.
best advice, let the config come up again, turn your resolution to 640 * 480, 16-bit colour mode, turn off everything in the third tab, use miles-fast 2D positional audio, turn all your video details to lowest* and try again. if it works then there is a setting that you must turn off, but everything else is fine.
*to turn down video details go to desktop properties, settings tab, advanced, and you should see a tab for your 3D card.
