It’s that time of the year again. Halloween is fast approaching and the usual banter from fundamentalist Christians (Not to be confused with the people we all know and love, our conservative Christian friends) is outracing Halloween this year - yet again.
I happen to be a conservative Wiccan Christian, so this sort of thing is important to me. As usual I’m being called a practicer of Satanic rituals and that I’m going to hell for observing Halloween, also known as Samhain. Yet these are the people who are supposed to love and care for everyone… Contradictive, or just plain hypocritical?
To me, they’re no better than the liberals who whine for tolerance and do not tolerate what it is that annoys or disgusts them.
The proof that Halloween isn’t Satanic should be known by everyone, to open your eyes to this world and expose the fundamentalist lies for what they are.
If you travel here you’ll see exactly what I, and many others, have been saying for quite some time.
As a witch my primary goal in life is to worship God, the Goddess, and to live a good life. The main rule we follow is “If it harm none, do as ye will. That would be a good rule for the fundamentalists to learn… The basic message is in the Bible!

Javaxcx | Well, I think he meant it on more of a contextual basis. As in, taking and applying certain beliefs of one and ignoring others because maybe the other religion makes a bit more sense on the issue.

well duh.
The point I was making is that you can't profess one belief, while professing another of an opposite nature. Using the above as an example, ou can't say that You're a Christian while you profess to believe in more than one god. Contextual matters aside, its simply a matter labeling yourself what you're not. Take what you want from a religion, and leave what you think isn't explained fully. Heck, I di that. I believe that different Religions have a better understanding of certain issues. It doesn't mean I'm going to profess myself to be a Muslim Jewish Buddhist (to use an example, it's not an accurate description).
In all honesty, I'm very much a devout Roman Catholic, but that doesn't mean that I think it has everything correct, so I look to others for a potential answer. I just believe that the Catholic religion, with all its follies, is the best one available.

Basically I see things like this. God exists, the Bible has correct parts in it, and Jesus came here to die for us. However I believe that it takes more than faith to do what God intended us to do.
I believe he put us here to think and understand the world around us, not to blindly follow other humans who mislead and destroy. Why would God put his entire faith in humanity into corrupted church officials and expect sin to lead us to him?
Now, using that logic, we look at what God did. He procreates with a woman and Jesus is born. Jesus, being the son of God, has magic abilities including healing, divination, and the ability to rise from the dead.
I believe in God and in Jesus. I believe both exist and that both are looking after our best interests. However, if God can create Jesus, why is it impossible for God to have created lesser gods as well?
I don't buy into the Bible completely. It's been translated too many times and there have been a lot of instances where people are prevented from reading it or are told something different than what was really in the Bible. For all I know the Bible could confirm Wicca as being something Jesus practiced.
I practice magic through prayer to God and thoughts of goodwill. All witches that believe in the Rede will tell you the same thing I am, that goodwill is what we all wish to bring to the world through our actions. We are obviously unable to do this in peace due to people being misled into thinking witches are bad people that cast evil spells to hurt others. As with all parts of humanity, witches are not immune to having evil influence their actions, and as such there are bad witches. There are also bad Protestants, bad Catholics (Molesting little boys, anyone?), and bad humans in general.
I believe that what I am following in life is my true calling. I was totally Christian for 18 years and found that Wicca has changed my life for the better. My belief in God is stronger than it ever was because I can see his actions in everyday life, and I can hear him talk to me and know that I'm doing the right thing.
That's how I justify mixing together Wicca and Christianity. Unlike what the fundamentalist Christians would have you believe, they are quite compatible if you open your mind and learn more about the world. Not all religions are correct, and not all religions are totally wrong. All have something to learn from that will better yourself and further your life.

Heh, thats sort of the type of explination I was expecting. (Not that taht's a bad thing).
My only concern is the label that you have given yourself. Before I continue, I just want to make clear that personally I could care less what you call yourself, but I've always tried to argue from a general-public point of view as personal beliefs can create too much confusion most of the time. Basically the concern is this: Both views hold opposing beliefs (as I had pointed out prior), so to call yourself something that contains opposing viewpoints is hypocritical in the publics eye.
Now a point that you may find benificial. My brothers girlfriend has similar views as you do about Christianity, so she labels herself as a spiritualist rather than a full Christian. And combining things with something like that is usually accepted. Gotta love techicalities, huh?
