I'm not sure if this will display the real language, but I guess you can try. Properties of game2.exe or Renegade.exe, then go to the tab with Version and click on language or something similar to it. Then look at the value it displays in the box next to it.

The language is only affected by the Strings.tdb and some soundfiles ind the always.dat.
If it is possible you should use the checksum of this files to detect Language.

Another thing that might be usefull: The Instaled Language is saved in Regestry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Westwood\Renegade ->InstalledLanguage

(its 2 for german) Cool

I can't believe he isn't/wasn't able to figure it out alone.

That once again shows the (not existing) skill of this "great coder".
