First thing you find out when you get there: high school sucks.
Try not to procrastinate too badly for papers and compositions you have to write, or you may find yourself staying up all night (literally) to write a satire in the style of Jonathan Swift to turn it in the day before finals after it's already two months overdue (true story).

God be with you, Uncle Wally.

Don't be popular. Popularity is a disease. But also don't piss off everyone in the school- be at least on speaking terms with most people. However, I maintain that following every last socially accepted norm turns your brain into slush, so don't be too much of a conformist.
Also, don't let yourself get roped into thinking you can learn the way they try to teach you...figure out how you learn best, and do that. I guarantee you'll lose less points doing things your way than if you do things their way and do them wrong.
And no, you don't have to get straight A's. If you bust your ass 100% of the time to get perfect grades, you'll miss out on the whole back end of your childhood. When push comes to shove, happiness and a C owns the hell out of depression and an A.
"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine
Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

Freshmen year is by far the hardest out of all 4, Senior year is by far the easiest...
I finished all of my math, science requirements before my senior year and social studies before the second semester of my senior year, so I don't have to do that much anymore.
(btw, I graduate high school in 13 days!)

Mainly opinion but i'd say make sure you keep a good reputation cause it tends to stick until the end. The work isn't as bad as public schools tell you, actually I find high school easier...
