I'm curious... Since I get free healthcare with this handy health card, what are the American laws on childbirth? I'm sure those C-sections aren't free. If they're going to make it against the law to refuse medical 'recommendations", then those medical treatments should be free. If not, then she doesn't HAVE to concede to their advice.
It's pretty simple, if you don't want to pay your electrical bills, you don't get electrosity. You don't want to pay for your doctor's bill, you don't get your treatment. Of course, it doesn't say that she didn't want to pay the bill, but I think it's a touchy subject if you're going to charge one woman for having a childbirth-related death and not charge that woman who preformed an abortion on herself.
And what is this? "Life endangerment" on the other child? Hell, if thats the case, they should be charging whenever a pregnant woman has a drink or smokes a cigarette.
/me slaps the American legal system
