What version of dawn and RA1 are you running? EA released free versions of these games compatible with newer computers. Are you using those?
If that doesn't help you, you'll need to either run an older windows 32 bit version as virtual machine, or use dosbox. D fend reloaded (http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/) works great, but it's not very easy to master, IMO. I run D fend with win 3.11 and play my 16-bit games on there  .
