You could also try to set the affinity to 1 core.

While game is running:
1. Open TaskManager
2. Go to 'Processes' tab
3. Find 'Game.exe'
4. Right-mouse on 'Game.exe'
5. Choose 'Set Affinity...'
6. Remove all checks from the checkboxes, except 1 (so only CPU0 is checked or only CPU1 etc)
7. Click 'OK'
8. Close TaskManager
9. Go back into renegade
10. Hope its fixed

Should make no difference, but I don't see why not to try it.

It sounds like the graphics card is using virtual RAM (Hard drive page file) which then takes a long time to clear out, causing these FPS drops. This shouldn't happen. Are you sure the graphics card has 512 MB assigned to it? You can check in Catalyst Control Centre.

It fixed freezes in a game for me so i thought he should just try this.
