We can already do that. However, it's a massive amount of work, and my country would have to open up the Constitution and all sorts of things that we'd prefer not to. Much like your country, ours has a lot of constitutional conventions and customs that have been formed dating back to the BNA Act, and plenty borrowed from the UK previous to that.

Tinkering with all that would take away time from more pressing economic issues, and because our provinces generally hold more power than the federal government, you'd be more likely to be skating in Hell, than having anything changed anyways. Mr. Green

It'd be a nice gesture to encourage the 'colonies' to have a referendum to determine their governments, but it should be more symbolic than anything.
