The Gateway will play UT3 and Fallout well, and it'll easily handle multiplayer like it's nobody's business. Crysis may be a bit more of a problem, but all PC's struggle with it. The performance you want will depend on your components, screen resolution, and the amount of eye candy you'd like. This goes for all computers, and is part of the challenge of buying one, and it gets even more finicky if you aim to build one.

One thing I would like to mention is that the Gateway may be more limited in terms of future upgradeability like newer video cards because the power supply may not be too expandable. I'd look up the model on Google and see how people do in the upgrade department with it.

What the dude on Craigslist is pitching isn't terribly impressive, and you can do better if you go through a large company or build it yourself.

For $1,500, you can build yourself a real beast though, and if you're game for a powerhouse that will last you for quite a while, with a lot of upgrade options, then I'd see what people here can suggest for you too. There's a new Intel platform just around the corner which looks to be very impressive, so if you can wait for a couple weeks, then you may get more value for your dollar!
