If the people get to vote amongst two identical assholes, and the people pick Asshole 1 yet Asshole 2 gets put into power. That's the problem. They are fighting for the validity of their vote not for any particular person or party. Iran needs to decide what it wants to be. If it just wants to be a Dictatorship or Oligarchy that's A-OK but if they want to claim to be a democracy they need to have an election and it has to have some semblance of credibility.

Did anyone seriously consider them a democracy, though?
