Alright, I was playing some YR, and all of a sudden I hear my computer make this "berverttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt" claddery noise. I was wondering is this the true sound of my hard drives death.

Windows XP
1.8 ghz
Compaq
Geforce 4 MMX440 64 MB edition
512k ram
T1
40 Gig HD

Really, only YOU, the user of the computer, can know your hard drive sounds. Using it everyday, you should know the different noises your hard drive makes--what is normal and such, etc. Razz You should know if something is wrong because you hear a noise that you've never heard before, but if you're still not sure a quick search on google about hard drive noises should yield an site on IBM about hard drive noises.

And you should also know that on my computer, the CD drive is usually the culprit behind the noise, since it vibrates so much the cover rattles, so you should make sure of the source of the disturbance.

And what DrasticDr was talking about, I had the exact same problem. Cause? The fan. Solution? A powerful vacuum blowing out the dust on the fan and its heatsink.
