I have been using the same cheap $50(at the time now it's only $40 or $30) dlink router(WBR-1310) for 1.5 years I think it is now and over Wireless I get the exact same speed I do if the computer is directly connected to the router, though I haven't been able to really test it considering my connection is crappy as hell, but the transfer speeds(for computer to computer) are good imo.
