Excuse my ignorance, but am I right in thinking short selling is where you sell shares you don't own, and then buy them later on at a lower price than what you sold them for?

I don't really understand why it's even allowed in the first place, how can you sell something you don't even own?

loopholes, miracles for the little man.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.
