Are you serious... You are just trying to scare this guy away by saying that. I have yet to come across a pure server these days. I stopped using Renguard for 1-2 years now and I never really got kicked for not using it besides one time when some people I know pulled a joke on me and forcerg'd me 3 times.
IMO all he needs to do is install Renegade, update to the newest version (unless he has TheFirstDecade) and login with preferred nickname and password which will be assigned to his serial if successful. After this he should consider downloading scripts 3.4.4. and a No-CD crack.
