Yeah, I brought this up during the EA bashing thread.
Whether or not it's a TF2 rip-off, I like seeing more of this style of gaming. Everybody emphasizes on graphics and the realism. It's all quite annoying. This game, like TF2, brings us back to pure gameplay with some fun graphics. Obviously, realism isn't of any concern, and I think it's a positive thing because they're not trying to be realistic. You can ride on the wing of a plane, ffs.
As for it being WWII, quit acting as if there's any sense of realism to this. There isn't. It's just a cool, WWII setting with WWII-era style weapons. Plus, it's nice to see a game like TF2 taking a different direction. Granted, this is more of a safe genre to create a game for, but it's a Battlefield game by DICE, what do you expect?
I do like some of the cool features of Heroes that isn't available in TF2, too:
- They have a meta game that is a dynamic points system that is collected from territory collected, and you're given virtual money for it for upgrades and such.
- You have customizable characters, so while you may only have 3-4 character classes to choose from, you can have radically designed characters that are as realistic or unrealistic as you choose.
- The people you play against are around your skill level, so it's always a balanced fight. I know this is one contributing factor to me not playing online games much. It's not that I can't play while sucking, but I'm not the most patient person, and having to take time to practice isn't on my top priorities, so I never contribute to the team, and nobody likes getting raped every time they go into a fire fight.
- As I mentioned above, you get to fucking FLY in planes, as well. Where can you go wrong with that? Oh, and you can snipe people out of the planes, too.
- Everybody has unlimited ammo. Whether or not this is a good thing is debatable, but with it not being a realistic game, I think this could be a good thing. It allows for more spray and pray, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.
Plus, the best part about this is that it's free. Even if it fails completely in comparison to TF2, you didn't pay a cent for it.
whoa.
