The time it takes to copy files in Vista is due to the graphical effects the Windows team wanted in Vista. They could EASILY make the transfers almost instant, but they want to the user to be able to look at their fancy progress bar while it copies. Not only could they increase the internal buffer, but decrease the number of UI updates per second, and efficiently decrease transfer times. But noooooo... they want you to look at a pretty looking window while it copies.. morons.
