Due to the fact that most laptops have different designs, run a web search on the particular model.
Generally, laptops used to open from the keyboard, but that is not true for many models (e.g. newer HP, Compaq models and others).
Even within a manufacturer, different models open differently, and due to the design of the systems, you have to be careful about certain fragile wiring, connectors, etc. - that's why you should research the model online to see what people have done with it. If you're lucky, someone may have written a tutorial on how to fully open it up and swap out specific components.
