Compression is done by cutting down on repeated data mostly.

i.e. for an image it's much better to say "this is a line of black pixels" rather than "this is a black pixel, this is a black pixel, this is a black pixel, etc. etc. etc."

If there is little repeated data (or it's already been compressed) then compression will not get you much results.
