I use steinberg programs alot: cubase and wavelab. Both are very decent and I got them with my helix board(a good firewire 12 input mixer). Also tried magix music studio/music maker but those are more mixing tools and quite basic.
I used to have a subscription for this magazine which had quite some professional mixer and add ons each release.
I still use simple tools like audacity to do some quick cuttings or simple mixing.
