Religion is not evil Jake. I know you've been to church before. How often did they call for genocide on non-believers? It's the extremism that's evil, and that can be through several other processes such as political, race, or any other methodology of mass control. Some just choose religion because it can be manipulated easier. Spoony pretty much summed it up in his above post.

My church stays away from any legalistic religion. Instead, it focuses on individual faith and the church helping each other out in finding and following Christ. My pastor doesn't preach that we're the one, true religion. It's implied, but it doesn't make a point to put down other lifestyles.

It's far from mind-controlling, unlike say... the Catholic church or Islam.


The catholic church is also far from mind-controlling. Now then, that doesn't preclude people from taking things to extreme. The Catholic church saying it is better than another religion, is no better than say, the American governemnt teaching its children that it is the best country, and that has caused just as much violence as any religion. (World War 2: "fight against a dictatorship because freedom is better!" It's still simply an ideal that is preached to be truth, that causes people to fight for its cause.)
