I suggest getting really comfortable with killing up close when the time calls for it. I've found that staying as close to people as possible in 1 on 1 situations really screws with them.

Also always have a full clip. As soon as you're clear from enemies you should be reloading. And by the time you fire your 3rd shot you should be looking for a safe place to reload. This applies to pretty much every character, but snipers most.
