Try returning your gf4 back to its defaults on all its tabs (Both opengl and direct3D) This worked for me with both a GF2 and a GF4 420. (You might as well try both on 00- 01mb and work your way up. with me it stops working past 128)
One person was able to fix this problem by loading Best Preformance Setting on their Bios screen.
This prob usualy happens on win98 with geforce cards.
