Other than the somewhat lame answer of it would be physically impossible to pull an story from that location of the body,

The stories like this from the Old Testament, regardless of them being true or not (I'm not going to debate that), have some relation to what idea is trying to be presented or have some bearing on a factual incident that was modified (on purpose or not).

No story would have any relevance if it were made up to answer a question. None of them do that, they simply exist to show a point (also not something I'll get into here), regardless of historical accuracy.

As for the New Testament, it is a historical record of someone's life. Take away the things that set this historical record apart from others, and its still tells the life of someone who lived over 2000 years ago. Unless you want to be able to call into question all historical texts, that story of a person's life can't really be pulled out of anywhere.

Regardless of whatever changes were made to suite its purpose, there is some sort of basis to all the stories.


This doesn't quite fill the definition of the phrase you used.
