Trainers are bad, mmkay? My best advice is to befriend people in a community or join an active clan. Both present unique advantages/disadvantages but the most important common goal is to better the group by bettering yourself.
If you're competitive ("I play to win!" attitude), join a clan.
If you're leisurely ("I play to have fun!" attitude), join a community.
Personally, I dislike competitive clans, simply because most of the good ones that I have seen are extremely arrogant about it. But they are nonetheless pretty damn good at the game.
