I don't know, but have you also first downloaded and installed the official patch?
The correct staps for installing are.
Install Renegade
Download official patch at ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/renegade/updates/, or try to use auto-update
Install patch
Download Core Patch
install corepatch.
