A serial hash is an md5 hash of the serial you entered when you installed renegade, the cd-key on the back of the case. It's made into a hash so people can't just steal it and use it as their own.

When it bans by serial hash, it will ban them if renguard detects that serial hash has joined the server. It's more reliable than an IP ban since people can have a static IP, where as you'd need to reinstall to get a new serial. It only works if the person is on RG though.
