no idea, I have heard of error correction before but don't know what it does.
here is a site I found quickly on google about tweaking 56k modems,

but I can't understand where it is asking you to put in the extra settings.

is it possible that high error rates could be causing my high ping time and so turning off error correction may resolve my dillemma?
