My personal belief over the course of time is that there is no god and never has been. In response to scythar, I don't think he is described very well because he does not exist therefore cannot be described. you'll see pictures and images depicting jesus and other biblical characters all the time. that's because these are characters described to have lived, and given descriptions to base the images from. perhaps these people do not have descriptions, and we can only make our own judgements on how they looked.

People used to believe things like the rain coming down from the sky is "God's punishment on us for our sins". well, study has proven rain comes naturally in a process of saturation, evaporation and conversion (cloud water to rain water). people believed a great many things when they didn't know otherwise.
furthermore, in the modern age of science and research, we discover more and more about the world and how it works. How can a planet just be created out of nothing through a phantom that we have never seen and never will?

Quote:

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

etc... if these teachings were supposed to educate people, they would mention actual elements that exist, like the sun, and the constant rotation of earth which gives us light in the first place. if fact like this exists and is proven, why does it tell otherwise?

However, I think the bible should still be read because we can learn from it. adam and eve speaks of human greed overcoming the will to follow rules (eating from the one bad tree). samson and delilah talks of love making a man foolish in his judgements. (although that doesn't seem to be one of the key teachings)

if any story in the bible is true, it would be the stories of actual people; it tells of men and women who lived and breathed on the earth.
