In 1985, Brooks commenced his / her professional music career,
singing and playing guitar within Oklahoma
clubs and pubs, most notably Wild Willie's Saloon in Stillwater.
Via his elder siblings, Creeks was exposed to a variety of music.
Although he took in to some country songs, especially that of
George Jones, Brooks was most fond of rock music, citing James Taylor, Serta Fogelberg, and Townes Truck Zandt as major
influences. In 1981, after hearing "Unwound", the debut solitary of
George Strait, Creeks decided that he has been more enthusiastic about playing country
music.
In 1985, enjoyment legal professional Rod Phelps forced from Dallas to listen to Brooks.
Phelps liked what he heard plus offered to produce Brooks' first demo.
